Cosplay Rules

VeXpo welcomes all forms of cosplay and highly encourages attendees to take part in the convention staple. Our cosplay rules are for cosplayers and non-cosplayers alike to revise and remember so as to enjoy the event to its full potential.

Cosplay is Not Consent!

This is our most important rule. Just because someone is in cosplay does not mean they wish to be photographed or touched. We kindly ask that if you wish to get a photograph with a cosplayer or have any further interest in their costumes, that you ask politely first. This ruling applies across the board of our cosplayers, from attendees to professionals to booth workers, cosplayers are all human and should be treated with the same respect.

Cosplay Etiquette

We kindly ask that you do not approach cosplayers for photos or interactions in certain situations. These include but are not limited to:

  • When they are eating

  • When they are sitting or clearly resting

  • When they are mid conversation

  • If they seem to be distressed or in pain


If a cosplayer is having their photo taken by another guest, we still recommend asking for permission first before taking a photo.

For our cosplayers, we have one piece of advice!

Dress comfortably!

Cosplay is not worth giving yourself any pain or aches that could affect your enjoyment of the weekend or leave you uncomfortable for the days following. With this in mind, and as is stated in our costume rules, we recommend:

  • Try on your costume and all of its elements prior to the event! You never know what may not fit properly or may need an extra pair of hands getting on.

  • Bringing a pair of comfortable shoes if the pair for your costume hurts or doesn't fit. Sometimes shoes are great for photos, but not for wandering around the event!

  • Too warm or cold? Don’t hesitate to rest and take parts of your costume off if you feel yourself getting too warm, and bring an extra layer if places like your shoulders or midriff aren’t covered, just in case you start to feel chilly!

  • If you start to get wig-ache, do not hesitate to take your wig off and rest your head! Some preventative measures for this that we recommend are:

    • Stretching out your wig cap prior to putting it on.

    • Putting some folded tissue paper under the wig cap elastic on top of your head to prevent it from digging in.

    • Not having your wig strapped in too tight, just enough for it to be secure and comfortable.


And our biggest piece of advice, for our cosplayers and non-cosplayers alike,

DRINK WATER!!

As cosplayers ourselves we know a cosplayers worst habit is forgetting to eat or drink over the con day. Please look after yourselves and be sure to stay hydrated and fed!!
